From Sandra Koch, CEO of Aurora Consulting Group LLC
Hi Friends,
We made it.
Tax season is behind us, and whether it felt smooth or stressful, this time of year always requires an incredible amount of focus, energy, and resilience—from our team and from all of you.
Now we have a chance to pause.
Spring is a natural time to reflect on what worked, what didn’t, and what small changes might make the next season better. I’ve found one mindset especially helpful when approaching change: treat it like an experiment.
Instead of asking, “Will this succeed or fail?”
I ask, “What happens if I try this?”
That shift replaces pressure with curiosity. It makes it easier to adjust, learn, and move on quickly if something isn’t working.
This idea also connects to a book our team read last year, Atomic Habits, which reminds us that meaningful change rarely comes from one big overhaul. More often, it comes from small, consistent improvements that add up over time.
That’s exactly how we’re approaching this year at Aurora:
Refine • Define • Align
- Refine through small improvements
- Define by creating clarity
- Align by making sure everything works together
As you move into this next season, I encourage you to do the same:
Stay curious. Make small improvements. Let the experiment teach you what comes next.
Warmly,
Sandra
Coming Soon: Service Agreement Updates
As part of our Refine • Define • Align initiative, we are going through our annual review of your service agreements and scope of work.
Over time, many of our client relationships naturally evolve—services expand, your business changes, and what started as one scope often grows into something different.
Over the next few weeks, you can expect to receive an updated agreement that more accurately reflects the services you’re currently receiving.
Our goal with this process is simple:
- Provide clearer definitions of services
- Ensure alignment between expectations and delivery
- Improve efficiency on both sides
- Reduce and eliminate confusion
If there are services you currently need, are considering, or would like to explore, now is a great time to reach out so we can incorporate those into your updated agreement.
Clarity creates better communication—and better communication leads to better outcomes for everyone.
Firm Update: Remote Work & Visalia Office
Aurora transitioned to a fully remote team in August 2023, giving our team the flexibility to work where they are most effective. This shift has significantly improved our focus, efficiency, and ability to serve clients.
At the same time, I’ve come to appreciate how valuable in-person connection can be. In addition to the quarterly meals we’ve been enjoying together, we recently opened a satellite office on South Santa Fe Avenue in Visalia for client meetings when face-to-face time is helpful.
I’ll begin scheduling in-person meetings for late June, so please feel free to reach out if you’d like to connect.
Opportunity Spotlight: Insurance Savings with Coverage
We’re always looking for ways to help our clients operate more efficiently and reduce costs.
One tool worth exploring is WithCoverage, an AI-driven insurance brokerage platform that helps businesses find better coverage at lower rates.
We’ve seen clients save thousands of dollars by reviewing their policies and making a switch.
If you’re interested, reach out and I’d be happy to make an introduction.
Protection Planning: Disability Insurance for Business Owners
If you are a sole proprietor or single-member LLC, it’s important to understand that you are not automatically covered under California State Disability Insurance (SDI).
However, there is an option to elect coverage through the Disability Insurance Elective Coverage (DIEC) program.
This can provide a critical safety net if you are unable to work due to a non-work-related illness or injury, including Paid Family Leave benefits.
For many business owners, this is an often-overlooked layer of protection worth considering.
